COUNTING CORNWALL IN THE 2011 CENSUS

ONS (Office of national statistics) has today published the population figures for England and Wales from the 2011 census: see here. 

The population of Cornwall (excluding the Isles of Scilly) is estimated at 532 300 in the 2011 census; that is 1.00 percent of the population of England.  The number of households was 230 400 and the number of people aged eighteen and over was about 430 000. In the 2001 census the population of Cornwall was 499 900.

The area of Cornwall (excluding the Isles of Scilly) is 3546 km2. This gives a 2011 population density of about 150 per km2.
