TEWKESBURY, CORNWALL

2 February 2010

Well, here’s a change from complaints from Cornwall about services moving out of the county. The MP for Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire pointed out (Hansard 1 February 2010 c 16) that the benefit claims of Tewkesbury people are assessed in Cornwall and he asked whether it would not be better if they were assessed locally.

From the minister’s reply, reasonable in its totality, I gather it is a telephone service based in Cornwall but Tewkesbury people can go into a local Jobcentre Plus to get help “if they need it,” though that sounds an ambiguous criterion to me. I don’t suppose it’s just Tewkesbury either.
